'B' IS FOR BRAND CAMPAIGNS FOR FALL/WINTER 2010

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘B’ is for BRAND CAMPAIGNS (DESIGNER, THAT IS!) FOR FALL/WINTER 2010!

As you know, brand campaigns are hugely important to designers and fashion houses alike for marketing their upcoming wares. Their very own global market stall, if you like! Here are some of the most prominent for Fall/Winter 2010. Btw you’ll notice Madonna's and Louis Vuitton’s are both retro-inspired.

1-2 Giselle Bundchen- Robert Cavalli (above & below)
3-5. Madonna – D & G
6-7 Julianne Moore - Bulgari

8-13 Christy Turlington, Karen Elson & Natalia Vodianova - Louis Vuitton
14-16 Milla Jovovich – Escada
WHICH OF THESE BRAND CAMPAIGNS DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL? ANY ONE IMAGE ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE? ANY THAT DON’T WORK FOR YOU?

Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers and also new followers who visited or commented this week! Have a great weekend!
And see you again for Ruby Tuesday!
Enjoy!
XOXO LOLA:)

"FASHIONS FADE BUT STYLE IS ETERNAL ..."

"Fashions fade but style is eternal” (Yves Saint Laurent)

I can’t recall what fashions she may have worn, but for me Audrey Hepburn encapsulates the essence of style.

WHO (PAST OR PRESENT) ENCAPSULATES STYLE FOR YOU? DO LET ME KNOW!

Happy Six Word Saturday! Other great posts @ Show My Face.

'A' IS FOR ACCESSORIES ~ DESIGNER ACCESSORY TRENDS FOR FALL 2010!

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘A’ is for ACCESSORIES – DESIGNER ACCESSORY TRENDS FOR FALL 2010!

Belts, it seems, are skinny, bags pared down, shoes have slightly lower heels (in line with the economy!) and yeti boots are, I read, essential! Do let me know which you like and may follow and those you can’t stand:

1. YSL - above (love the chain and gloves!)

2. Chloe - 70’s style camel shoulder bag (below)
3. Versace – so shiny and reminiscent of sweet wrappers?
4. Proenza Schouler – meant to be an alternative to the ‘It’ bag! What do you think?

5. YSL – do you like this horse hair down heel?
6. Stella McCartney – lower heels

7. Chanel – love these faux fur Yeti boots!

8. Alexander McQueen – boots to keep out all that winter snow!
WHICH OF THESE TRENDS DO YOU LIKE AND MAY FOLLOW? ANY YOU DETEST?
Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers and also new followers who visited or commented this week! Have a great weekend and see you again for Six Word Saturday!

WHO, FOR YOU, IS "LIFE ENHANCING"?

The other day, I read a snippet from the recently published second volume of the diaries of former UK Labour MP, Chris Mullin:

"(The film Director) David Puttnam's final outing as Chancellor of the university. A delightful man. One of that small band of life enhancers of my acquaintance… Merely to spend company is to come away refreshed."

This got me thinking. Who, to follow Chris Mullin's example, are people I know who I would describe as 'life enhancers'? My family, my P.A. Nora (though utterly inefficient!) and, er, too many friends and blogpals to list here…They’re all people I'd happily be stuck on a desert island with.

Now who you would describe in the same way... Could be pets (like the canine on the Mulberry label catwalk for current London Fashion Week above) or someone you haven’t met but admire (like the Pope who’s just completed a State visit to the UK, your own Head of State, or a “personality” like Subo below!) Do let me know! Happy Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday! And do visit other Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday posts! (Links at Work of the Poet and Sue loves Cherries.)

IS LADY GAGA A FEMINIST ICON (OR "A TALENTLESS FAKE"?)

There has been much discussion recently in the UK press whether or not Lady G, in her outlandish outfits and fright wigs, is a feminist icon or not.

According to the September 12 2010 edition of the London Sunday Times, a piece by Camille Paglia sums her up thus:

“Her fans see her as a brilliant, ironic taboo-breaker, an erotic icon, diva of desire. Camille Paglia sees only a talentless fake, a travesty of womanhood, whose posturing seduces only the internet generation.”

Do you have any strong views? How does she compare with other female singers? Is this simply a “generational” thing? Do let me know!

Happy 6 Word Saturday! Other great posts @ Show My Face.

OVER THE RAINBOW ...

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where, this week, RAINBOW colours rule! Now, I’m not sure, myself, about this for clothes (the Versace above, for instance?) or interior design. But many do carry it off flawlessly. So it must be me! Anyway, enough of the talk and let’s look at the …
colourful evidence!
KEY:
1. Versace (above)
2–3 Matthew Williamson (for H & M) – Kourtney Kardashian & Estelle (below)
4-5 Matthew Williamson – Thandie Newton
6-7 Matthew Williamson (for H & M) – Gennifer Goodwin & Daria Werbowy
8 Matthew Williamson - Joy Bryant & Becki Newton

10 Erdem
Now, as for the world of art, a couple of rainbow Kandinskys:
and a Klee:
As for the man-made world, a foot-powered dance floor, Rotterdam (how green!)
And as for the natural world, firstly, colourful images featuring donkeys. The first horrific one of a scared animal overflying a beach in Russia. (Be very afraid, Ryanair & EasyJet!),

the second a more traditional scene ON a beach (in the UK):
And secondly, the famous RAINBOW flower gardens, Epcot, Florida:
I’M STILL UNSURE ABOUT RAINBOW-COLOURED CLOTHES! BUT WHAT ABOUT YOU – WHAT’S YOUR TAKE? AND COULD YOU WEAR ANY OF THE OUTFITS ABOVE?

Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock´s great site!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers and also new followers who visited or commented last week! Have a great weekend and see you again for Six Word Saturday!
