CATWALK SHOWS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2011

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘C’ is for CATWALK SHOWS FOR SPRING / SUMMER 2011. However, there are signs the traditional catwalk shows may be reaching the end of the runway. Tom Ford tried a new approach to showing a collection at New York Fashion Week by limiting access to his show and banning all photographs of the collection until the clothes were ready to hit the shop-floor (and the photos retouched). And Burberry Prorsum’s collection for London Fashion Week was broadcast via a live stream. One or two designers, too, are adding ordinary, more normal-sized members of the public to their catwalk shows! Phew!
Here are some images from this season’s shows:

Balenciaga Catwalk:
Then and Now:

Christobal Balenciaga WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON CATWALK SHOWS? ARE YOU INFLUENCED BY THEM AT ALL? AND DO YOU THINK IT’S THE END OF THE TRADITIONAL RUNWAY WITH ZOMBIE-EYED SUPER MODELS RESEMBLING DEER CAUGHT IN THE GLARE OF HEADLIGHTS?

Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers and also new followers who visited or commented this week! Have a great weekend!
And see you again for Ruby Tuesday!
Enjoy!
XOXO LOLA:)

I love to see them purely for the creativity of the designers. I'm not sure that they ever become fashions that anyone other than models would wear. I admit I don't know that much about the fashion world though.

Fantastic outfits! Like the idea of "larger" models being used on catwalks! 8-)

Those first two are a bit too way out for me but some of the others are fine! Like to watch catwalk shows for inspiration and then look forexamples on the high street!

High/Runway Fashion has always struck me as extreme. I always wonder where they get their inspiration~

give me a runway or catwalk any day!!! i love a good parade of fashion ... it stimulates the senses, it makes you think ... and dream ... and imagine ... pure art ... and the translation to more wearable clothes is always interesting ... oh, and so glad we are getting away from the uber skinny heroin chic model ...

Don't really follow the runway shows too much. I keep up with fashion somewhat because of television and stores, but continue to be a big believer that a timeless classy piece that fits you well and comfortably is way better than the latest runway fad.

I love Liz Claiborne. Her clothing designs always seems to fit me well. These are great pics by the way.

Thanks for stopping by earlier.

By the time they come to the stores I shop at they are probably from catwalks long ago.

I think some of the creativity is amazing and some of it is about as ridiculous as you can get! Those models are so skinny! But this post was clever and cool! Thanks for sharing today. Come join me soon. Anne

If these are the current fashions, I am out of luck. They look nice on the young ladies, but not designed for seniors.

Hi Nora and Lola,

The white Viktor and Rolf is amazing but you really would not be able to sit down.
The old vintage Balenciaga is fabulous with the hats.
Thanks for sharing and I hope that you are having a great week

I'm not interested in cat walk shows except for art's sake. The clothes aren't usually wearable, and definitely not affordable. Its just a showcase of the designer showing what they can do, I love to see the pictures from the catwalk shows, but i am not into the creations that get too artsy (like in your first picture)-- I mean, please tell me who is going to wear that, and to what occasion. Bar Mitzva anyone?

I can depend on you for great photos. Love to watch runway models do their thing. It's like watching a clothes hanger in motion.

There's a drawing on my Wed post you might enjoy.

Um yeah, I am not certain I would want my daughter aspiring to look like them

I am glad that I am not a follower of fashion. I like to look good but some of these creations are rediculous. Thanks for sharing will know what to expect my daughters to turn up in lol

Definitely some interesting things seen on the catwalk! Wow, do people really wear these creations or are they only seen on the catwalk? I've always wondered about that. It must be fun to see in person though...almost like going to the theater and seeing the many artforms that people make. I think it's interesting :)

Would anybody actually ever wear this stuff?

I'm strictly a jeans and t shirt kind of gal, but it is fun to look at the creativity that others display.

Catwalk shows mean nothing to me really but I do like to watch those long string beany models do that horse like walk with their legs crossing.

I'm always amazed at how I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any of those expensive, high-fashion pieces!

I like watching them but I don't think I could actually wear any of the clothes they feature :)

Just dropped in to say hello. All I know about "cat walks" is that it drives the dogs crazy when they do it in front of our house:) We hope you and Lola are doing great!

that first outfit is crazy cool - not really influenced by the catwalk in everyday life but do love to look :D

ps - thanks for coming to visit me while i was on my babymoon :D

I have never been influenced by catwalks at any time in my life...or fashion for that matter...which is pretty sad, really.

I love to see these things and am an avid fan of Project Runway!

Some of these clothes are soooo far out...I can't imagine where anyone might actually wear them!

Thanks for the fun and fashionable link to Alphabe-Thursday.

A+
