OSCARS ...

Dear readers, this week, natch, *O* IS FOR *O*SCARS!
The Artist became the first silent film to win the top prize at last weekend’s Oscars, taking the award for Best Film and Best Actor. Meryl Streep (below) won Best Actress for The Iron Lady. Same awards as for the British BAFTAs two weeks ago!
Here are some of the most striking frocks on display:
1. Emma Stone (Giambattista Valli, above)
2. Meryl Streep (Lanvin) 3. Natalie Portman ( Dior)

4.Gwyneth Paltrow (Tom Ford)

5. Glenn Close ( Zac Posen)

6. Viola Davis (Vera Wang)

7. Jennifer Lopez ( Zuhair Murad)

8. Penelope Cruz (Armaini Privé)
9. Angelina Jolie (Versace and THAT leg!)
10. Michelle Williams (L Vuitton) And now a gown that, unfortunately, resembles landlady gold lamé rather than a golden screen star. Dressing like an awards statue is no guarantee you’ll actually win one:
11. Stacy Keibler (Marchesa)
12. Kristen Wiig (J Mendel) – a feather duster?
13. Sandra Bullock (Marchesa) – walking on her knees?
WHICH WERE THE EVENT'S HITS & MISSES…? AND, ER, THE MOVIES TOO!
Do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @
Jenny Matlock.
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers who have visited or commented.
Enjoy,
XOXO LOLA:)

Glenn got my vote:)

I thought the show was better than most in recent years. I thought Angelina looked hideous. I adore Meryl Streep and think she's a class act. Glenn and Gwyneth looked gorgeous.

Hi Lola,

Actually, I didn't watch the Oscars, but I enjoyed seeing your pictures of all the fancy gowns. Thank you for sharing them with us this week.

I loved Gwyneth's dress, and I am so happy for Meryl. She is the best!

Angelina looked too thin which made it hard to even look at her dress because my eyes were drawn to her hollow cheeks and thin arms.

I did not love Sandra Bullocks dress, though I do like her. I though Gwynneth Paltrow looked lovely, and Natalie Portman always does.

I loved Meryl Streep's too, because she not only won an Oscar, she looked like one!

J Lo showed too much for my taste, but she does have some lovely attributes there, so to speak.

;)

I don't watch the Oscars. I agree with the above poster that Angelina looks hideous and her leg is nasty

I loved Gwyneth's look ... she has had some memorable oscar night disasters so it was great to see her so perfectly styled. I also loved Natalie's Dior, I know a lot of people didn't like it at all, but i loved the polka dots and the retro vibe ... Didnt like Viola's gown at all ... that ugly slash is just all wrong ... which is strange because Vera Wang is almost always perfection. Angelina's Versace was smoking hot! Sadly Angelina looks like she is starving herself ... i liked her look a few years ago when she looked normal in size.

oh I could go on and on about the gowns but i wont ... just so happy that Meryl Streep won!!!

I wonder if they get together and decide: "ok, this year, let's get fancy!" ? {:-D

Some of those dresses just look plain uncomfortable! LOL... I loved the Cirque du Soleil show, that was AWESOME!

I watched the Oscars as I have for many years - to see the gowns and hairstyles.
They were all beautiful but I think Jennifer Lopaz was showing more than intended when presenting.

I enjoyed the Oscars so much this year! All the dresses were pretty with one of my faves being Michelle Williams. What a doll she is. Loved seeing all your pictures here to scroll through.
Hope you're well.
Cheers!

Gwyneth looked odd - at some point it's no longer attractive to wear a tight dress on a too-thin body. Sandra's was a bit odd, but oddly elegant too. Angelina?....just not nice, not pretty, not elegant - too bad. The rest? All winners!

I did not watch the Oscars, so was lovely to see all the glamorous gowns.
Thank you for sharing this, and hope you are having a lovely weekend

I just love the Gwyneth Paltrow gown with cape. I just can't see why the critics hated it.

Red is an attention getting hue, so being dressed in ruby may make your chances better. Or something like that,,,elegance abounds in all these views!

Wonderful women, all of them. I'd accept any of those dresses.
If I'd lost 20 pounds, I'd definitely go for the Glenn Close ensemble.
She's a hundred percent woman, ( and I'd need that jacket to cover up my aging arms)!

Hi Lola,

Watching the celebrities in their evening gowns is always an enjoyable evening.

My favorites were Natalie Portman's Dior and Michell William's L. Vuitton.
I'm so happy for Meryl Streep winning as Best Actress. Have followed all her movies over the years.

Hi Lola,

I wrote a comment, not sure if it's coming up twice.

Great Ruby Tuesday2 post.

My favorite celebrity gown is Natali Portman 's red Dior.

So happy that Meryl Streep won for Best female actress in a picture. Have followed her movies and liked her acting since the beginning.

I think JLo knew exactly what she was doing when she gave the world a peep show! Anyone who didn't see her nipple popping out of her gown had to be blind! Ugh! Lovely dress, trashy taste! I thought her co presenter Cameron Diaz had a striking gown on. Some of those gowns like SandyB and George Clooneys "friend" were ridiculous and they should get a refund!
Good post as always!

Lola! Nora! I've missed you both!

I am really, really hoping life slows down soon and I can get back into my blogging routine. I miss it something fierce!

Thanks for an outstanding link about the Oscars! I have never followed them...being one of those rare people that pretty much reads for entertainment!
