ONE MILLION POUNDS FOR 'WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE DOG' ...

£1 million for 'world's most expensive dog'...

A Red Tibetan Mastiff puppy has become the world's most expensive dog after being sold for almost £1 million. Tibetan Mastiffs are fierce guard dogs that have stood watch over nomad camps and monasteries on the Tibetan plateau for centuries.

Legend has it that both Genghis Khan and Lord Buddha kept them. More recently though they’ve become highly-prized status symbols for China’s nouveau-riche. The dogs are thought to be a pure "Chinese" breed and are rarely found outside Tibet, giving them an exclusivity that other breeds can’t match. So prices have risen from around 5,000 yuan a puppy five years ago to the hundreds of thousands and even millions now. Big Splash (above)- or "Hong Dong" in Chinese - is 11-months-old but already stands nearly three-feet-high at the shoulder and weighs more than 180lbs.

WOULD YOU PAY EXTRA FOR AN EXCLUSIVE PET BREED? HAS THE WORLD GONE TO THE DOGS?

Do let me know! Happy Ruby Tuesday & Rednesday.

Enjoy!

XOXO LOLA:)

PS Have a good week and see you again for Alphabe-Thursday!

No, I would never pay that much, even if I could. The whole idea of paying that much seems (to me) absolutely obscene when there are so many starving people in the world. Just saying. :)

Wow, that's an awful lot of money to spend on a dog. I'm with EG, what a waste.

He's awfully cute though, hard to believe that little furball will grow up to be so fierce.

Yes, the world has gone to the dogs!

JUST THE RIGHT THING

Bright scarlet is just the right thing
To make a sad heart start to sing;
It fills you with cheer—
Now isn’t that clear?
It’s better than any old bling!

I love dogs, but not in a million years would I spend a million pounds. On anything for that matter. I'm waaaay too cheap.

It's a big sum to spend for a pet. I don't think I will even if I can afford it.

Happy Ruby Tuesday!

I assume it will lead to all sorts of breeding abuses
I hate this sort of thing

he's adorable

I adopt and only adopt
and don't get me started on what I think of most breeders

Hi Nora and Lola,

Such a gorgeous dog but no I would not pay that sort of money even if I had it, which I don't.

Happy Ruby Tuesday and week to you

Must admit, I'm a sucker for the 'exotic' unique colorations of different breeds...but, I wouldn't pay THAT much. Ever.

Luckily, I guess, I will never have that much $. . .what an interesting looking canine, though. Beautiful in fact!

I have never paid any price for any animal. We have many dogs over the years, but we never paid for them. They were just plain dogs that made excellent pets. No dog is worth that kind of money.
