´U´ IS FOR UNIQUE ICON ~ GRACE KELLY! WHO IS YOURS?

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘U’ is for Unique ~ Grace Kelly!

For many, she is an icon. Who, in your view, is the greatest icon ever (in any field: politics, medicine, arts, sport, music etc)? Nelson Mandela, Professor Stephen Hawking, Mozart, Madame Curie, Lola…?

Below are some of the items from the exhibition, “Grace Kelly: Style Icon” at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London until 26 September 2010. If you´ve managed to catch the exhibition here or elswhere, were there any gowns/accessories you think should have been included?

KEY:
1-5 Various gowns (below, designers not stated)
6 & 7 Gowns from “The Swan” (1955)
8 Givenchy gown for White House luncheon
9 “High Society” gown
10 “Rear Window” gown
11 Jewelry
12 Sunglasses
WHICH, OF THE ABOVE, IS YOUR FAVOURITE OUTFIT AND WHO, IN YOUR VIEW, IS THE GREATEST ICON EVER (EXCLUDING ME, LOLA)?!

Have a great Alphabe-Thursday! And check out other great Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock´s great site.

See you again for Six Word Saturday!

Mwah!

XOXO LOLA:)

She was stunning, and I love the clothes.

I adore Grace Kelly. My favorite dress is the simple gold belted number in the the 5th photo down. I would love to have one just like it!

She was such a beautiful woman. That purple/poink dress in the third photo is my favorite.

Hi, thanks for your comment on the foxglove. I have edited the post slightly - this was a mutation I'm told, caused by a avirus so if you did see one in the countryside it would have been a real rareity.
Love the 50s fashions, not sure who I would say was an icon tho

No doubt about it - Grace Kelly was it for me as a girl. She's to blame for my eternal dissatisfaction with my short stature, dark hair and non-willowy limbs!
My favorite outfit of those shown would be the evening suit in the third photos, although I have always loved the suit she wore aboard the yacht as it sailed into Monte Carlo for the wedding.
Classic!

Grace Kelly was oh so cool and beautiful 'to the bone'. I like the 1st photo...the brown with the cream shawl...and the 5th photo with the dark brown? flowered number...and of course the cool sunglasses. Favorite icon? Never really thought about it...perhaps someone from 'the Old West'...famous chief or maybe William Cody...great post though:-) Peace and blessings

Oh wow - those pictures are amazing!! Those sunglasses... they look like they would be on style now.

Lola - You are UTTERLY adorable! Understandable you'd write about Ms. Kelly. She was undeniably one classy woman!

Such a stylish post, Lol.
Love dress No. 7 although I could never imagine myself wearing it - or any of those lovely dresses actually.

My favorite icon - is that like a hero? - will always be the current Dalai Lama.

As a committed Christian, my choice may be a little surprising, but it has to be Mohandes K Gandhi, definitely, for standing up for what he believed in and never resorting to violence!

Grace Kelly - sure but I like Audrey Hepburn better, I Hepburn more down to earth

thanks for your visit

I like #7, it's a little fancy but seems simple to me as well. I don't think I really have an icon I guess although I do love Audrey Hepburn.

My favorite gowns are in picture #4 (light blue gown and cape) and the pretty dress in #6 with the creamy top. Thank you so much for the absolute wonderful "U" post...you included some very unique garments from a time gone by. Believe it or not, my icon would be Benjamin Franklin because of his wit and intelligence. He did so much for the USA when it was just a fledgling country.

Grace Kelly gets my vote! Great post! ~ Sarah

Like the 5th and 9th dress best.
The seventh dress is nice too, but I don't like it that it's so long.

The greatest icon from my point.. Hmm, everyone is different and that's great!

Haha, thanks for your lovely comment, there may already be pixies in your garden =)

Gummy bears dancing,

I adored Grace Kelly - on all four of my visits to Monaco ( the last
this past October for my 65th birthday ), I went to the palace to see her grave. She was a classic beauty and I thought she was a perfect princess.

At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )

I loved them all but my special favourite is the dress that is fourth from the bottom. It is like something that my unique icon - Meryl Streep would have worn in my favourite film 'Out of Africa'.

Actually I don't even know if I truly consider Meryl as my icon - she is my favourite actress though and she seems to be a lovely and natural woman - will that do?

Love this post!!! I couldn't pick a fav, they are all gorgeous. I also think Grace Kelly would be my pick.

Loved your choice for U. Got me thinking about who has held a unique place in my heart. Gotta be JFK. Been there for 47 years and no one has come along to replace him.

I'm just hanging out now listening to Leonard Cohen's original Hallelujah. I've never listened to all of it because it just doesn't compare to Jeff Buckley's. Now that I'm listening to the whole thing, I've gotta say, he moves me almost as much as Buckley.

I love Grace Kelly but for me it would be between Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn.

I really loved Grace Kell, her name really ways it all Grace. Nowadays women are not as graceful, but they are more "real"! I guess the ones i admire are Meryl and Diane Keaton, and Goldie Hawn. Real women...well with some plastic surgery, with strong personalities.

Hi. Oh I am all about Hepburn. And I would take all those dresses if I could look like that in them!

I always enjoy my stop here.

It is elegant and interesting and always compelling!

Thanks for linking up and helping to make Alphabe-Thursday such an unbelievably neat meme!

A+

Hi Nora and Lola,

Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are my favourite icons ~ they both had so much style and glamour.
I love all the vintage gowns you have shown and the eyewear.
I do not have to say who my male icon is!
Great post and thanks for sharing.

Happy weekend

My daughter did a report on Grace Kelly this year. There was a lot about her I didn't know. I was excited that she chose her.
