WEIRD & WONDERFUL SPANISH FIESTAS ...

Dear readers, this week, ‘W’ is for *W*eird and *W*onderful Spanish fiestas! In Spain, there’s always a fiesta, local, regional or national. Andalucia alone has 3,000 annually ranging from romerias (pilgrimages), verbenas (night fairs) to ferias ( fairs) and festivales. Here’s a taste:
1. San Sebastian’s La Tamborrada
2. La Tomatina in Buñol
3. Holy Week processions take place every evening pre Easter
4. Puppets stuffed with fireworks set on fire on day of La Crema
5. A nominee for Queen of Santa Cruz carnival

6. Warriors parade celebrating Moros y Cristianos in Alcoy
 7. Puerta del Sol, Madrid – New Year’s Eve

ANY WEIRD / WONDERFUL FESTIVALS WHERE YOU LIVE? Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock! And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers who have visited or commented. And to new followers too.
Have a great weekend!
Enjoy and see you next time,
XOXO LOLA:)

I'm afraid the only festival we have here is the Sundance Film Festival and it's more pain in the neck than fun!

Hi Lola and Nora,

I enjoyed seeing some of the Festivals in Spain, and the photos.
Thanks for sharing.
NZ really does not have Festivals like yours, we have Music Festivals, Comedy and Arts Festival.

Hope you are having a lovely week
Hugs
Carolyn

Hi Lola,

Lots of wonderful fiesta pictures! I wish I could tell you of some here in New York, but all we have is the big New Year's Eve in NYC. Maybe it's time I do a Google search and see what we have :-)

The puppets stuffed with fireworks looks pretty creepy to me. We have our annual town celebration in the summer, but it's pretty mild. Parade, games in the park, fireworks. Love living in a small town.

My granddaughter is going to live in Spain in the fall, to work on her master's. She will love all these festivals!!

We used to have Pride Days in my little small town, but that's fallen by the wayside. :-)

It looks like they have a festival for everything. We have only the traditional ones here.

Some of these were wierd... tomatoes, hoods? I can honestly say we are pretty tame here in Canada. And I think I'm OK with that : )

Well there's Gasparilla Pirate festival in Tampa, and Fantasy Fest in Key West, and then there is Bike Week in Daytona and you never know what you will see there. That's about all I can think of off hand. The celebrations you have listed are strange and some are scary too.~Ames

Fun post -- looks like something for everyone in fiestas.

Nothing that elaborate here, but there are nice festivals in Michigan- these remind me of Mardi Gras, etc. or the Chinese festivals, they put alot into them- very elaborate... would love to go to one someday.

I like the warriors in red - I just hope that they are firing blank ammo and not real...love the tomatoes, the acidic red fruit splattering all over. I only hope the fruit is ripe, as being hit with an unripened tomato must sting a little bit...

I'm sure we have some weird festivals, but right now all I can think of is the "Turkey Trot" Festival at a little town of Yellville near here.
