*E* IS FOR *e*-BOOKS!

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘E’ IS FOR *e*BOOKS!
With e-books now worth 6% of total sales in the UK, having increased 300% in 2010, are we looking at the end of the paperback? Well, whether or not that is the case, I’ve now had my own novel, The De Clerambault Code (already available on Amazon in paperback with the new “Look Inside” feature), issued as an e-book (at prices that are a steal!)

Regular readers will recall that I’m keen to do whatever I can to support the fundraising campaign of Cudeca (further details in sidebar), a hospice here in Andalucia, and the reason I’m donating to it all future profits from sales of The De Clerambault Code, a psychological suspense thriller (Click HERE OR IN SIDEBAR for amazing reviews & further details!) whose themes deal not only with the nature of obsessive delusional behaviour, violence and death but also the problem of human trafficking and adolescent thugs. Likewise sales from my soon-to-be-published psychological suspense novel about identity theft, Soulstealer.
And it seems I’m not alone in going the e-book route! A top UK independent school, Wellington (above), is ditching 16,000 books (more than 80% of its total) for… e-books. Its new library – which has changed little since the school opened in1859 as a national monument to the Duke of Wellington, the victor at the battle of Waterloo – echoes changes made in some American universities, including Stanford’s engineering library, as part of its move towards creating an “electronic" one.
So, dear readers, download now on your Kindle, iPad or palm of your hand! I don’t mind which!
WHAT’S YOUR VIEW? WITH ELECTRONIC DEVICES, ARE WE SEEING THE END OF THE TRADITIONAL BOOK?

Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @
Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers who have visited or commented.
Have a great weekend! And see you again for Ruby Tuesday!
Enjoy!
XOXO LOLA:)

I am always a wee bit behind the power curve when it comes to technology...one of the last it seemed to get a microwave, cell phone...that sort of thing... I like the idea of the E books, but it is just my hesitancy cuz it seems to take me longer than most to feel comfortable with "new stuff"! (I still have to ask my hubby or our kids how to work the DVD machine!

How exciting to here that you will soon have another novel published!

Blessings & Aloha!

Oh I hope not!

I love the feel of a book in my hands and the weight of it on my lap and the way it looks in the bookcase....

A loud NO! I have to touch a book and want to admire its cover, tracing the design with my hand.

Happy reading,
Birgit

WEll, thank goodness!! Now I can download your book to my Kindle! I have been waiting for this!!

I don't think we are seeing the end of traditional books. Many people still love the feel of them. I love that I can take my Kindle so easily when I have an appointment. And it is great for air travel.

I'm still loving books! And yours is still on my bookshelf! I'm not good reading suspense, but I shall put it to the forefront of the bookstack so my husband will get to it soon!

How exciting that you have another book being published soon!

I'm impressed with your energy!

Thanks for some exciting news on this link!

A+

No, not the end of regular books. BUT I do think eBooks will take over a good share of the market. I read both kinds...and enjoy them both.

I haven't tried an e-book before. I just got a iPad so I plan to try one. I love that you are donating to such a wonderful cause.

I hate reading off an electronic screen. I can't hardly read a long blog post without wanting to print it out. It's all about the feel and smell of the paper.

I love my books! I have so many beautiful old classics and lots of different kinds of books. I like the feel of the pages and the touch of the binding and particularly leather books! I have to have a book! I don't like "e" everything, so impersonal. But this was a good post! Thank you for sharing and I hope you visit me too. Anne

This is a tricky one for me I would so love a kindle , but I am worried trhat people in the next generation will not know the smell of a new book the spine of a new book and uncurled pages.

Also you cant go to a charity shop and buy second hand kindle book.

I think it is innevitable tho and I do like the idea of having a variety of books on me that I can dip into the type that I am in the mood to read, I have about 6 on the go at the moment.

I am sooooo behind the times, still buying and reading paper. I know that facts about ebooks - was shocked to see that a book to which I'd contributed was available as an ebook. Is it because I live on an island??? No - I'm just a hopeless Luddite.

In Belgium and France ebooks are not yet well known and when I asked in a specialized shop the guy looked at me as if I was ET ! He never heard of it ! So be assured it's not for now that traditional paper books are running out !

I do not have a kindle or nook yet although I am tossing around the idea of getting one or the other. I buy many of my books second hand or borrow them from the library. I do think that e books have their time and place but i would be quite heart broken to give up my books all together. Some of my books are like old friends. And, when I am an old lady (if I should be so lucky) I will be happy to curl up with the books that my father curled up with.

I almost did mine on e-books. I do love them, mostly for the conveince. I have a Kindle but I use the Kindle app on my iPhone mostly & if not for that I probably wouldn't be reading as much. I do like to escape in a book but I don't like to always carry them around so having access to all on my phone is AWESOME!!! I'll have to check your's out for sure:-)

I would be sad not to be able to hold a paper book in my hands. I bought my husband an Kindle for his birthday and he's enjoying it...

I read and enjoy most all books. Mysteries are not one of my favorites. Good luck on all your future books.

Congrats on your new novel! That's really cool of you to donate the proceeds to your charity....I think there will always be books, whether in paperback or hardcover, regardless of how popular e-books become. E-books are just another format. No big deal.

Got your novel on my book shelf - enjoyed it so much i'm going to pass it on to my friends around here straightaway!

Maybe it's the end of paper books, after all it's cheaper needs less trees, right?

Personally I'd like to see those devices get a little cheaper.

Off to add that ebook to my Kindle now!

Hi Lola, Congratulation!

You know, I prefer traditional books than e-books. Because my eyes couldn't stand the screen...lol.

Oh wow! Congratulations on the release of your e-book! I should pick it up and read it :)

I do most of my reading on ebooks these days because it's the easiest way to get English books in Japan without having to pay to import it here. Plus, I live in a small apartment which means I don't have much room for paperbacks. Of course, I would always choose paperback over ebooks but I have to go with whatever is most easily accessible these days!

I will always love the feel of a real book, but honestly I'm running out of space for my books and most of the contemporary non-classics are just wasting paper as you never read them more than once. I actually quite like reading kindle books on my iPhone.

Hi Nora and Lola,

Congratulations on your book!
That is wonderful that you are there with the Top 50 on Amazon.
I will have to go and buy a copy.
I hope that there will always be the traditional book, love holding in my hands and smelling the paper.
My ipad is great too though and enjoy reading books on that, sometimes.

Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
