VACATION WEAR 2010 ~ WITH A SLIGHTLY SHOCKING POSTSCRIPT...

X’ IS FOR (E)XCITING VACATION WEAR!
Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘X’ is for a post I missed when abroad on business. So here are some uber-glamorous examples of vacation wear if you still need any ideas for your own trip! (Here in Andalucia, it touched 36C today so less is certainly more! Sincere apologies if, in your part of the world, it’s cold and/or raining!)These all form part of Carolina Herrera’s Resort Wear 2010 collection described by her as “very light, feminine and romantic” and mainly composed of, er, cocktail dresses. What do you think? Any styles appeal?

POSTSCRIPT
The last vacation wear item is not courtesy of Herrera but of Pamela Anderson who is known as a strict vegetarian of many years. She has done a new PETA campaign to convince people not to kill animals for fashion purposes. However, the ad campaign was banned in Montreal as it was too ‘sexist’ for local businessmen. As you can see, she’s photographed in a tiny bikini and her total body divided into separate parts similar to a butcher’s division of an animal’s carcass.)

When her permit was refused, she commented, “In a city that is known for it’s exotic dancing and for being progressive and edgy, how sad that a woman would be banned from using her own body in a political protest. In some parts of the world women are forced to cover their whole bodies with burqas- is that next? I didn’t think Canada would be so puritanical.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS SHE RIGHT TO PROMOTE HER BODY FOR POLITICAL PROTEST EVEN IF IT OFFENDS OTHERS? WOULD YOU DO THE SAME? AND SHOULD SHE “REFUDIATE” HER POLITICAL VIEWS?

AND WHAT ARE YOUR OWN VIEWS ABOUT THE BAN-THE-BURQA DEBATE?

Do tell me! And do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock ´s great site! See you again for Six Word Saturday!
Enjoy!
XOXO LOLA:)

Wow, those outfits for vacation are fabulous but I think a bit too fancy for me. I'm best in a t-shirt and cut-off jeans when on vacation. Now if I'm whisked away to Europe that would be different, LOL! I LOVE what Pamela Anderson has done and for this cause, I would have done the very same thing!! Kudos to Pam!

Great post, Lola and Nora!

Great post Lola -as always!
And yes, I'd do exactly what Pamela's done.Such a worthy cause.

Verification this time was "petta"-coincidence, no?

Marvellous post, gorgeous pics AND an interesting debating point.Always well worth a visit to your site Lola!

Bizarre!Terrific post :-)

Nice clothes but why are the models all so stick thin? Surely it's not natural! The Burka debate's a good one though...

Hi Nora and Lola,

You have shown so many beautiful dresses, now all we need is summer.
I love the last three.
Always great to come and visit and such great topics.
I think Pamela should be able to have done this.
About the Burka, my question is why do the Men not have to wear them?

Stay cool, dear friend and have a great Thursday
Hugs

I would never want to to these kind of things. So many inspiring dresses, don't like the blazer one's though.

Oh, did you use Facebook to vote? Because I don't see you in the voting box =S So nervous!! I need to get loads of votes to make in the top 25..

Crossing my fingers,
Berlin

Thank you Nora for visiting my blog. About the burqa - I strongly am against the imposition of it by society unless women voluntarily decide to wear it. Head cover is fine but the full cover of the burqa is very difficult for me to accept. In Pamela Anderson's case it is her body after all and she is not asking anyone else to follow suit. It is also for an excellent cause. It may be too much "in your face" for the Canadian authorities maybe. It will be the same situation I think with any authority. They would not have the gumption to accept this billboard.

Hi Lola!! Beautiful dresses...not for me to wear, but beautiful just the same!! I do believe that Pamela is posing for a very good cause...and I believe she should be able to make that choice...if she wants to.

Dear Pamela - did you know that she's from the Island - just up the highway in Ladysmith.
I think she should be able to display whatever she likes on her body, but no one is obliged to display the picture.
The Burqa - I despise it and while I wouldn't wish to see a piece of clothing banned, I know that there are many who would require all women to wear a burqua if they could. It is less a piece of clothing than a huge symbol of the repression/oppression of women.

The fashions are a bit brief for a mid-winter Australia. But I think the advert is excellent. It really brings home the fact that we too are animals and all the 'beasts' are our relations!

Wow, very dramatic outfits! I can't imagine I'd ever have occasion to wear most of those, certainly not on vacation, but I'd feel awfully glamorous if I did.

Re Pamela Anderson - it's her body, she has the right to use it as she chooses.

Love the collection! Although my vacation attire is usually shorts, t-shirt and flip flops - give me the beach any day. As far as the burqa debate, I don't know that they should be banned. But I don't think that they should be required. It should be the woman's decision to choose to wear it or not. But in those particular societies, that is very unlikely. Kat

I am a huge fan of CH! I find her clothes so pretty, elegant, and wearable. My favourite is the yellow dress in the first picture.
As for the burqa debate, if a woman wants to wear a burqa, nobody should get in her way, and if she doesn't want to wear one, nobody should force her.
Likewise, if PA wants to wear a bikini, big deal, I mean, she's shown a lot more than that in the past! Whats the difference between the bikini she is wearing now and the ones people wear on the cover of fashion mags.

The clothes are amazing. I wish I had a reason to wear the gowns.

Cheryl said...

My body hasn't seen the inside of a dress in close to 13 years. Yikes!

I couldn't care less what anyone chooses to do with their own bodies. The fact that she has that choice speaks volumes about cultural differences, doesn't it?

Unknown said...

Wishing my short stature could pull off those looks but alas, no. Lovely fashions.

Betty said...

It's a good cause, but I wouldn't do it. I'd prefer to have a celebrity like Pamela Anderson pose. :)

Viki said...

I think with all the adds on TV, print and elsewhere it's a little hypocritical to not show Pamela Anderson's add. As far as banning a certain type of clothing, I don't think it should probably be banned but I also don't think people should be forced to wear something if they don't want to.

Theresa Plas said...

The CH fashions are dreamy beautiful. Thanks for posting as my fashion sense has gone missing.

As "Heavenly Housewife" commented, I too think the burqa should be a personal choice. I detest the idea of being forced to do anything, although after reviewing those fashions perhaps I should force myself to hit the gym more often...

Kind of surprised Montreal banned the PETA poster ... or maybe we've just seen it all already here in the US?

Regardless - Happy alphabe-thursday LoLa!

Forget the beautiful dresses --I want a body like those models have! If only I could havew my 20 soe=mething body back :)

Burkas are part of a religious tenent and therefore if the woman is a beliver in that religion, to that level of orthodoxy, then I think they should be allowed to wear them.

Tina said...

Beautiful clothes, but a bit fancy for me. As to Pam, I'm for letting her do what she wants. It's not one of my pet (haha) causes, but we all have something we really feel strongly about.

Life@Cee said...

Loved the glam dresses. One of my weaknesses is clothes (and shoes). I don't get the controversy with the Pamela Anderson ad - it's just a woman in a bikini after all. As for the burqa debate, a woman should be able to wear whatever she wants to be it burqa or bikini.

Great post! Hey Pam has got it so use it flaunt it, it is her right to do so!~ Very thought provoking...thanks!~

Hi well mm not sure? Ok I think that it is entireley up to Pam what she does I think she makes a perfectly valid point . I am not a veggie but I do think that animals are killed and kept in an horrid way. I would not use my body like that but fair play to her . I love the outfits.
Now to the Burkha another interesting topic. I think that I should be allowed to wear my cross as a sign that I am a christian so really Muslims should be allowed to dress modestly . I do not however think that the Koran says women should wear Burkhas in a supposedly christian country after all I visited a Muslim country I would not be allowed to wear shorts and T shirts

Susan Anderson said...

On Pamela Anderson, I have to admit it's effective advertising. Wouldn't work for me, but it's her body...

Burkhas? Well, a woman who truly chooses to wear one for religious purposes should be able to, of course. But no woman should be forced to, either by law or by her husband. And visitors to an observant country should not have to comply, either.

JMHO of course.

=)

What a great post! First, I adore those dresses...now if I just had a place to wear one. Second, I think Pam's body has been oggled enough for less-worthwhile reasons and totally support her choice to run the PETA ad.

paige said...

Love the dresses. :)

I think PA can do what she likes. I can see how it's a bit racey, but if I didn't like it it would be because of the skimpy outfit, not the message.

I think that people in countries who don't wear burkas should be able to ban them if they want to. I think the debate is stupid. If you want/need to wear one, don't go to those places.

I hope my opinion doesn't offend anyone, but I am entitled to it. Plus, you asked. :)

Love your blog, btw. Thanks for visiting me.

Hey you!

How are you? Long time since we have communicated. Well,it's been a long time since I have written anyone.

Now, I know what to go shopping for on my Florida vacation. You know I am a vegetarian, too, but I do not think I will have any luck looking like dear Pamela by September.

Hugs to you.

Those are some pretty vacation cloths. Mine consist of Capri's and longer comfortable blouses.

I loved the gowns, but where on earth would you vacation in those? One the yacht?

Jo said...

i do love several of those dresses/outfits ...
as for the PETA add, i do think it is a very strong message, but i see nothing wrong with it all ... it makes a point ... and the city of Montreal ... i am shocked by their attitude towards this add ... i found it an unbelievable decision.

Beautiful dresses each and everyone but not the sort I wear on vacation(or ever cone to think of it!)
I agree that Pam A should be able to use her body to make her point in thie way.
Burkha's........I believe it's a womans choice to wear whatever she wishes without pressure from her husband, religion or government but in many cultures, IMHO, that will never happen.

Jenny said...

Wow. Some of those dresses are amazing. I wish I would have been raised more of a "girl" so I would totally feel comfortable wearing those.

I say good for her! If she can bring attention to the cause then it is all good. I was fascinated by the cleverness of that ad. Someone has a great publicist for sure.

Thanks for adding your spice to our little pot of vegetarian Alphabet Soup this week!

Hi Nora,

Loved your post and as well the outfits. I could easily imagine myself wearing one of the cocktail dresses sipping a nice margarita...

As for PA (a nice Canadian lady herself) and her poster, well, I must say that her ad is very thought provoking ! I live in Montreal and I wonder "who" these people are? Are they meat producers??? Montreal is not AT ALL puritanical. My jaw dropped when I heard her ad was banned...we are in the middle of the Jazz Festival, the Just for Laughs Festival and whatever other festival you want. It just does not fit. Anyhow, on the topic of burkas, I lived in Qatar and just came back in January. As you know the Middle East is very hot and I tried to wear one just for fun. I dont know how these women do it. I was told by a Muslim cleric that the Koran does not mention that women have to wear veils. It seems to be very cultural. So many different Muslim countries have different rules about what and how to wear the "costume". Luckily expats do not have to wear anything special in Qatar. Personally, I object to the face being hidden but not the head scarf. I used to live in front of a catholic convent and I'm always reminded of nuns when I see them.

First of the outfits are beautiful! If only I were a bit shapelier (in all the places where I would like more shape :o)

Hm...well Pamela has an amazing body and she is wearing something...well...haha barely...

Blessings & Aloha!
(I have been wondering for some time, but keep forgetting to ask...how do you put a link in your comments that you leave?) I hope that you have a bit of time to pop over to my place...I am the last to turn in the Alphabe-Thursday assignment! so I hope I still get some other "classmates" to stop by :o)

I'm not sure that any of those outfits would be much good in a tent. Actually I take that back. I am sure! They would be hopeless!! (Beautiful though)

Some fabulous dresses there - love most of them but I don't think they can really be called vacation dresses, more suitable for a film premier or something like that. Gorgeous all the same but I doubt if I'd every go anywhere appropriate to wear them.
