THE LAST OF THE ICONS ...

With Elizabeth Taylor’s death last week, many in the press say it’s the end of the era of true glamour and star quality. Yes, it’s true, dear readers, with the death of this icon – like Marilyn earlier – there are now so few of us left! But where was I? Oh, yes … Who, in your view, will be remembered longer: Elizabeth or Marilyn? Here are a few reminders of, perhaps, Elizabeth’s best-known films:

1. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

2. Giant

3. Suddenly Last Summer

JAPAN ...

ONE OF 30 BOATS LEFT HIGH AND DRY BY THE JAPANESE EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI
The massive earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March together caused widespread destruction and suffering, relayed on television screens around the world. More than 18,000 people are now estimated to have died, thousands injured or missing, and more than 440,000 people have had to leave their homes. With the world’s attention now switched to Libya, please don’t forget the humanitarian crisis still playing out in Japan.
It, just like Christchurch and its earthquake last month, needs our help. Please donate to The Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal_

WHO/ WHAT WOULD YOU SAVE FIRST FROM A BURNING HOUSE?

Britain is famous for its love of pets but it seems that times are changing after a survey revealed that 60 per cent of respondents would grab their laptops, mobile phones, iPods and even games consoles if their house was burning down before saving the family dog.

The public’s callous streak was attributed to the vital nature that gadgets play in everyday, modern lives but the results are nonetheless startling. Of 1,219 people surveyed only 14 per cent said that they would leap to the rescue of their dog, cat or canary in the case of a fire.
WHO/WHAT WOULD YOU SAVE FIRST FROM A BURNING HOUSE?
Do let me know!
