ICONS

Dear readers, this week ‘I’ IS FOR *I*CONS!
Everyone has different perceptions about what constitutes an icon. What do you rate?
Here are some to get us started:
1. Micky (above)
2. Tutankamun

3. Marilyn 4. Kids playing in a downpour, Cuba

5. Vietnam horror 6 & 7. A couple of Aircraft: Concorde and a Vickers Spitfire
And Logos: 8. The BBC (HQ)
9. Shell And, finally, a more recent icon:
10. Uggie & “his” 2012 Golden Globe award for The Artist!
WHAT CONSTITUTES AN ICON FOR YOU – A PERSON, MONUMENT OR …?
Do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @
Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers who have visited or commented. Have a great weekend!
Enjoy,
XOXO LOLA:)

Clever: not only was Marilyn an icon but that photo is iconic in its own right. I think the Apple logo is an icon.

Nice pics; things that are fun and those that remind us of the horrors that humans do unto others.

Hmmm--I guess the Statue of Liberty is an icon. Clark Gable, maybe? Nora, I'm going to think about this. You have given us a very interesting question!!

Lola, Lizzie is having her first big girl haircut tomorrow! I'll post photos just for you!!!

I think of people as icons. The photo of Hiroshima is one that keeps popping up since it was first published and it speaks volumes.

Icons to me are things/people that need no further explanation. You know what/who they are as soon as you see them... you've got a great list here! Here are a few more:

Michael Jackson, Betty White, Nike swoosh, Coca Cola, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty, etc etc etc.

We have to go with three...one Mickey Mouse!! Two....Marilyn Monroe! and our most favorite APPLE!! Whatever would we have done without Steve Jobs? He was an amazing man!

For me the only "icons" are in Iconoclastic art - a very early art period...in my humble opinion, what people (presently) call icons I would call "trends."
(Hope you don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to be snobbish, but my definition of "icon" differs).

An icon can be a person or thing. My grandfather (whom I was named for) is an icon to me - my heritage. Yet the Spitfire, given my moniker, was a superb plane that flew well before I was born - yet it is an icon. Your list is full of icons in that I am familiar with what they represent. A thoughtful post of icons!

I always think of icons as those little tiny pictures on my computer.

It's odd that I forgot this other, more classical, meaning.

That having been said, gosh...I still can't help but think of those teeny, tiny pictures!

Thanks for an interesting link for the letter "I".

A+

Interesting array of icons you've shared. I'd have to think about what I see as an icon.
I agree with Stephanie V that the Apple computer logo is a good example.

I'm not surprised my husband Ralph chose his grandfather. He was an iconic character, from what I've been told!

So many people have become icons as have particular features in our world! For me, my personal icon is the sea. It nurtures me! Love the range of colourful icons in your images!
