MOVIES TO STEP INTO ...

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘E’ IS FOR *E*XCITING MOVIES – ONES YOU’D LIKE TO STEP INTO! Sometimes, a movie creates a world we wish we could simply step into – far from the imploding global financial crisis engulfing us all.

The graphic violence of Michael Winner’s Death Wish sequels; the horrors of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie franchise, anyone? No, we could think of loads of movies in which we’d rather not find ourselves! Of course, in many cases the whole concept is a non-starter – the various props, costumes, sets and camera locations that make up the movie’s visual reality are so cobbled together it’s difficult to take them seriously anyway. But sometimes the magic does take hold and a movie creates a world you feel you could simply step into, one in which you might be happy to stay.
For me, it's the dark opulence George Lucas conjured up in Star Wars, and the fun George Roy Hill created in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (above and below). How I’d have loved to have been on that bike instead of Katherine Ross (pictured) or on that cliff-edge alongside Robert Redford and, especially, Paul Newman - whom I had the great pleasure of meeting in a Malibu restaurant when I lived in LA. And spent the rest of the evening trying my best to avoid staring into those mesmerising blue eyes ... What would your favourite movie be to step into? Something modern or period like Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre – if you fancy stepping back in time!
On TV, too, wouldn’t you just love to drop in on your favourite soap/series and join in the gossip and banter? Like Sex and the City, Star Trek or Friends. (Wouldn't it be just great to have friends like those?) For something a bit more demanding, there’s always The Killing (above). Set against an unremittingly dark, Danish backdrop that would certainly keep the pulse racing, I’m not sure, though, the “heroine” Sarah Lund - famous for an edginess that would make my beloved Dexter seem like the Tooth Fairy - would necessarily make the ideal companion.

As for the world of books, surely many would love to step inside a Harry Potter novel and “live” his adventures. Or a John Grisham legal thriller or a Lee Child action yarn. For me, there are characters in both my psychological suspense novels (in paperback - or at just 86p or €0.99 per ebook a steal!) – Alex in The De Clerambault Code and Dan in Soul Stealer – I would love to meet. Dependable types to rely on in a crisis – back in the real world …

WHICH MOVIE / TV SERIES / BOOK WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO 'STEP' INTO? Do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @ Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers who have visited or commented. Have a great weekend!
Enjoy!
XOXO LOLA:)

My husband loves Butch Cassidy, but I am not a fan. Luckily, we both go for Star Wars/Star Trek/Lord of the Rings, so there's common ground!

I'm not sure! Probably an old western where the heroine is trying to run the family ranch all by herself...

My favorite feel good movie is "Chocolat".

I love Butch and the Kid, too. Jeremiah Johnson, starring Robert Redford, is probably one of my favorites. Star Wars, definitely, and Blade Runner as well. Rod and I saw a movie this week called "My Name Is Kahn" that was sooooo touching! It was made by a Saudi Arabian company, so there were so inacuracies in it, but the message was sooo excellent. Unfortunately, the people who watch the t.v. shows I trashed in my current post will never see it.

Excellent post, Nora!!!

Hi! Those images from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" are wonderful. Those two handsome young men. I love the scene with the bike too. I think I like "The Sting" better, though, but I wouldn't want to step in to it. I would step in to "Pride and Prejudice" (Jane Austen's world in general) or "Anne of Green Gables." (or Narnia or Middle Earth)
What a fun post!

Hi Lola and Nora,

Great post and to step into a movie and spend a day on set would be fun.
I do love Jane Eyre, just to be able to wear the gorgeous period costumes and I could swoon around all day. Would also love to be on Pirates of the Caribbean, now that would be a lot of fun.

Happy weekend

Love Star Wars but I think I'd like something period like Jane Eyre or Wives and Daughters because it's a good excuse for a grown woman to play dress up!

I'd gladly step into any movie with Paul Newman in it. :)

Loved your post! I love Robert Redford!!! ;) I loved the movie The Great Gatsby...he was such a mysterious handsome character in that movie. I would love to step into Pride and Prejudice as Elizabeth Bennett...such a lovely romance novel...along with Jane Eyre, The Notebook....I guess I'm a hopeless romantic. I'm currently "living" the best movie, my own life. :)Thanks for stopping by.

Hello.
I would love to step into Jane Eyre, Pride & Prejudice, Emma...basically any period romance movie. Something about being lord of the manor & all those fancy clothes that appeals to me, but no movie can compare to the one I'm living now with my beautiful wife! (smile)
Thanks for sharing & visiting. I appreciate the comment.

Paul Newman looks so handsome there.

As for films - I guess I would like to be one of those moody actresses you see in arthouse French films. You know the sort - I can't quite pick a film series though. I guess I would have been directed by Truffaut, dressed by Chanel vintage and drive around in a sporty little old Citroen.

Love to you as always xxx

People used to say I looked like Katherine Ross....but I don't think I'd like to be her character in that movie.

hmmm...being in a movie or book....I love the escape while reading/watching. The only one that came to mind was Narnia.

The Eyre Affair is an interesting read. Special Operative Thursday Next enters the novel to save Jane Eyre from the clutches of Hades who has plucked her from the book.

I have never seen Butch Cassidy. If I were to jump into a movie I would love to live in that drafty old house of George Baileys on Its A Wonderful Life. I love that house. As for tv I would like to be Dexter's sister. Even though she doesnt have her shit together she is pretty and smart.

Hi Lola, what a fun post. Yes, Paul Newman does have dreamy eyes. I too loved Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Robert Redford lives in a home in Provo Canyon very close to our home For me, the minute I watched 'Miss Potter" I thought, "Oh how I would have love to live there! Moveis do wonders for our imaginations don't you think?

The classics ought to be seen someday - Star Wars was remarkable, and who would have guessed that in 1977 that was actually episode 4, yet we saw it first...Butch and Sundance were perpetrators with amazing style. We shouldn't feel bad about train robbers, but these two - who didn't cheer them on? And maybe, they escaped from the Bolivians when the movie ended!

My kids would dearly love to step into Harry Potter's world and I have to say, so would I :).
