BOND MOVIES - AND THOSE BOND GIRLS ...

Dear readers, I am participating in Alphabe-Thursday where ‘B’ IS FOR *B*OND: JAMES BOND - AND THOSE BOND GIRLS …
News of the latest Bond movie, Skyfall, and of the latest Bond girls made me wonder if it isn’t time, at this point in the 21st century, to retire these ladies from the franchise? What’s you view? Do you like them and believe they are as intrinsic/integral to the format as Bond himself? In other words, if they were to go, Bond would soon follow?
Here are a few reminders of Bond girls (past & present):

1. Bérénice Marlohe & Naomie Harris (with Daniel Craig, below) - Skyfall
2. Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress) – Dr No

3. Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman) – Goldfinger
4. Tiffany Case (Jill St John) – Diamonds Are Forever 5. Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) – Goldeneye

6. Strawberry Fields (Gemma Arteton) – Quantum of Solace
WHAT’S YOUR TAKE? DO YOU LIKE/HATE BOND MOVIES? (AND THOSE BOND GIRLS?)
Do check out other Alphabe-Thursday posts @
Jenny Matlock!
And, finally, thank you to all my dear readers who have visited or commented. Have a great weekend!
Enjoy!
XOXO LOLA:)

Since the whole Bond concept is anachronistic now why not keep the girls? We can look at it as historical content...he, he.

I love James Bond movies, but it is a shame that those poor girls were born without any charm or beauty...lol...

While I was in labor with my first child, I read all the Ian Flemming James Bond's. Yes, it was a very long labor, and I am a fast reader. My favorite Bond was Sean Connery.

I have been a Bond fan for years. Love all the action. The girls have never stuck into my mind. Except for the Goldfinger Girl. Who could forget a name like that? Lol!

The Bond movies are ridiculously sexist, BUT I do think that the Bond girls are an essential element of the films. They are as important as the car he drives (and about as objectified, but I guess thats not the point LOL). These films aren't supposed to be taken with any seriousness. THey are just a bit of fun.

Never thought too much about the Bond girls...was always fixated on Sean - the only true Bond IMHO...still have a secret crush on that man.

It's fun to be back at your place for Alphabet Thursday. Bond... hmmm... I haven't kept up, but my oldest son (19) has begun watching through them. He likes things that are predictable, where the hero is certain to have things under control and win. I warned him about the bond girls.

Hi Lola and Nora,

Bond fans here too and every now and again we get them out and watch them.
Always exciting and fun to see again.
Honey Ryder, who could forget the scene where she comes out of the sea wearing the belted bikini.
Also Pussy Galore, what a name!
Sean Connery was my favourite actor I think, what about you?

Happy weekend

The Great Dane is a Bond fan, but I can take them or leave them. That said, Daniel Craig is a great Bond!

Hi Lola and Nora,

You asked about the Islands from our place the first one is Little Barrier which is straight in front of us and the other is the north of Auckland.
Auckland is further down to the South of the photo.

Hope you are enjoying the weekend

I guess I've never really thought about it. I just focus on mr. Bond himself : )

I love James Bond movies and which will be the new Bond girl. I remember when Teri Hatcher made the scene. Now...Desperate Housewives. She is so goofy in that series that it is hard to imagine her as a Bond girl.
Stopping by Alphabeth Thursday.
Check out my post, if you get a chance. http://permanentposies.com/2011/11/breaded-buttermilk-chicken-strips/

Uh oh. This might be anti-human or something but I've never watched the movies or read the books!

Gosh.

Talk about leading a sheltered life - ha!

Thanks for a post that will 'Bond' many!

A+

For me, as long as the girl was associated with the Bond of Sean Connery - the best Bond of all in my opinion. I like Diamonds due to the stunt driving (Ford Mustang) and the girl. 'Cool' was redefined by the original Bond!

don't care about the girls, but I like Roger Moore

Hmm, I've watched the first two movies and thought they were great :) I've always thought that the women in the Bond movies were there to add emphasis to the fact that 007 himself is super sexy and that he gets all the hot girls. Taking them away would be like taking away his fancy car and sex appeal, right? I say we should keep the girls :)

The Bond movies have never done anything for me, and I think I might have only seen one of them. But the girls are such a tradition, I think that they wouldn't want to mess with a good thing!
Happy REDnesday,
